Morpheus Road: The Black (Cover)

No, it’s not here yet.  Not until the 13th.  But I wanted to write a little bit about it ahead of time.

Many of you may remember that we went back and forth about what the cover of “The Light” should be.  There were two different designs that we liked and  we ultimately went with the “Gravedigger” cover.   But the other cover was also really good too, so the thinking was:  Why not use both?  Meaning:  we’d use the other design for when the paperback of “The Light” came out.  So the design guys did a little bit of work on the other concept and when the paperback of “The Light” comes out it will look, more or less, like the other design.

However…the design for the paperback looked so good, that when it came time to design the cover for The Black, the same issue came up.  Do we use the same style as the hardcover?  Or go with the second design?  After a lot more back and forth, we decided to go with the second design this time.

So…that’s a long way of saying that when you see the cover for “The Black”, it will be very different than the cover of “The Light.”  (But it will look a lot like the paperback cover of “The Light”…which won’t be published for a while.)

Make sense?  Probably not.  But the main thing is, the cover for “The Black” is really cool, and I hope you like it.

Fun in the desert

A great big thanks to Dan at the Barnes & Noble store in Palm Desert, CA for hosting a signing last week.  I got the chance to see some old friends, and to meet some new ones.  And a special thanks to those who drove from so far to see me!

Signings are getting a little weird.   I’ll be talking to a Pendragon or Morpheus Road reader, and the next person in line will be a mom with a sweet little girl in a princess dress all excited about The Monster Princess.  I have to change gears pretty quickly.  But you know, it’s really fun.

Big thanks to…Pages

We had an awesome event at Pages in Manhattan Beach.  It was fun reading The Monster Princess to such a wide age-range of kids.  (And it was especially great to have so many friends there.  Thanks guys.)

I loved meeting a nice woman from Pennsylvania who just so happened to be visiting town on holiday and just so happened to have heard of The Monster Princess and wanted to get it for her daughter and just so happened to have walked by the store to see the books in the window for an event that just so happened to be the next day!  It’s great when things work out like that.  (And she loves books herself, so she just so happened to get a copy of Morpheus Road.  I love that too)

A great big thanks to Patty, Linda and Margot for hosting and for their staff for being so great with all the kids…and for the pink cookies!

Big thanks!

A great big thanks to Andrea, Anna and Lauren at Mrs. Nelson’s Toy and Book Shop in Duarte, CA for hosting the very first “The Monster Princess” storytime.  It was a lot of fun, especially the mask-making.  Though I’m nervous about where the pictures are going to end up on the Internet.

Thanks guys.  Can’t wait to come back!

How Shannon drew Marshall Seaver

A very talented reader created an illustration of Marsh and I thought it would be fun to post it.  I think she’s great.

The Monster Princess #2

Now that I’ve finished the latest touch-up to Morpheus Road #2, it’s time to clear my head and work on something completely different…which is to write the second Monster Princess book.  It’s weird going from writing about horror and strife, to getting all fun and bubbly.  On the other hand, it’s good to change gears and think in a different direction.  It keeps things fresh…and interesting.

And it’s perfect timing since The Monster Princess #1  is going to be published in a few weeks.  There won’t be an extensive tour, I’ll just be going to semi-local spots (Meaning: drivable) for readings and storytime.   These will be WAY different than Morpheus Road/Pendragon events in that the readers will all be under 8 years old!  Talk about thinking in a different direction!  I’m looking forward to it.

Back from vacation.

Just got back yesterday from two weeks in Italy with family and friends.  It was great.  Want to see my vacation photos?  (Just kidding.)  I’m now back to work and doing some touch-ups to the latest draft of Morpheus Road:  The Black and getting ready for the publication of my picture book:  The Monster Princess.

If anybody is going to Comic Con in San Diego, I’ll be there on Sunday.

New Pendragon Covers 6-10

Just saw that covers 6-10 are out.  Man, they look great!   It’s kind of weird to see covers other than the originals, but I like ‘em!

Getting out of Trouble Town

Just turned in the latest draft of Morpheus Road:  The Black.  Yeah!  Ready for a little down-time.

Next month The Monster Princess publishes.  I know that most of you readers won’t be running out to get that because it’s a picture book, but if you know of some little ones…

We’ll be posting a book trailer on the site in a few weeks.
