Irrational fears

We all have irrational fears, not to mention rational ones. Me? I don’t do well with snakes, but they pretty much fall into the rational variety. Anything that can sneak up on you and deliver a lethal bite is worthy of my terror.

Of the irrational sort, I am afraid of clowns. In a big way. I’m a classic Bozo-phobe. I can even trace it back to an incident when I was about two years old and was taken to see a movie in a theater for the very first time. It was a matinee, back in the day when parents would drop kids off for the afternoon, unsupervised.  Basically, it was anarchy. In between the Huey, Dewey and Louie cartoon and The Shaggy Dog, a special live appearance was made by Clarabell the clown. For those who don’t know, Clarabell was Howdy Doody’s sidekick. He didn’t speak (a particularly strange affectation embraced by some clowns) and only communicated through the honking of various horns. So this creep comes charging down the aisle, the kids go ballistic, and my brain exploded.

So it may be an irrational fear, but at least I have an excuse.

What irrational fears do you have?

i identify with you, Saint Dane. especially whaen im lying awake at night after i was stupid enough to wach ghosthunters before bed.

the number one thing that make me cringe above all things is the thought of (or the actual observing of) the gouging of an eye. cant stand it. makes me want to rub my eyes to make sure theyre still ok.

number two thing… splitting or broken teeth. its never happened to me before and i hope it never will.

  14. Robert Pendragon says:

My fear is a really loud sound. That’s all nothing can look scary to me.

  15. Nobody says:

I’m with Batu Warrior. I have no problem being on top of the Rockafeller center or whatever, but I have trouble jumping off the high dive, let alone going on roller coasters. Also, I’m deathly afraid of unexpected stimuli (which is a fancy way of saying 4D movies and people jumping out at me, which my little bro loves doing). I’ve never enjoyed sudden sensations, but my issue was made WAY worse by the 4D movie at the Insectorium in New Orleans; there are, like, pistons in the seats that attack you!

  16. ThatRandomGuyDude says:

Im scared of the dark, falling, Gravedigger, Damon, getting shot down when I ask out a girl, weird guys that hang out in dark allys that wear leather jackets, clowns by a long shot(theres a story for that), and most of all…..drowning I love to swim but im absolutly terrified of going underwater.

  17. Black Water says:

gravdigger scares me too. i’m afaid of small spaces (claustraphobia!), and that story about how Ree (Terry seaver) in morphues road died terrified me. hot ovens, but not open flames.

  18. Shannon says:

Bats, bees, and things with stingers. Oh, and hypodermic needles, or needles of any sort, but I guess those count with stingers. On bats, I actually have a reasonable explanation. Bees and needles? Not so much, save the fact that the idea of having something puncture your skin is terrifying, let alone the thought of that thing puncturing your skin spewing some sort of medication or antibody into your veins. That sort of thought keeps me up at night O_O

  19. Vo Spader says:

I can’t stand needles. I get sick just watching somebody else getting a shot. 🙁

  20. Laura says:

  24. Bobby Pendragon says:

  25. Bobby Pendragon says:
