(CAREFUL, SPOILERS AHEAD)
Now that The Light has been out for a month, I figured it was okay to start a topic to discuss it.
For those who have read my Pendragon books, you know that I write stories that don’t always go where you think they’re going. Morpheus Road is no different. At the end of “The Light” there are some very big twists and story shifts . . . not the least of which is the reveal of what Gravedigger is all about. Or not about. Who thinks they know where the story is now headed?

PWNed basiclly means that somebody beat you, or that they are happy. At my school my friends say powned, like ‘I so powned you,’ I dont think there is really a true meaning for it though.

I think it might head in the direction of how in the next book will mostly talk about what Cooper is doing on Morpheus Road, and what happens there in general. I also think that Gravedigger is deffenitley coming back, good guy or bad guy i dont know. That would be a good twist if there was a way that Marshall or Cooper could control spirits in one way or another.

I agree. This is much more thought out than other horro stories. I don’t even know if I would classify it as horror. It definitely is creepy, but the story is just way more…advanced compared to other horror books. I would give it it’s own genre.. (I mean that in a good way)

The second book will be called “The Black” because at the end of the first book Cooper was talking and from what i saw from the Pendragon series usually the epilogue of a book is the prolouge of the next. Also earlier in “The Light” Cooper said it was cool in the Black. We know the Light is the living world and the Black is the dead world. Cooper’s point of view, Cooper’s dead, the dead world is the Black, the next book will be “The Black.”

Ah, DJ, why must you torture us all so? I TRIED so hard to let this book last so that I wouldn’t have to wait so long for the next, but you couldn’t give me a dull spot to put it down during, could you? No. Instead, I stay awake half the night reading and yelling at myself for staying up so late. Then, I start thinking about the next books… Why did you have to be so amazing at hooking an audience? Now, we’re all stuck waiting for the next book, allowing our minds to wander. Fantastic.
On a tangent:
The next book, I’m assuming, will be The Black. However, even though DJ said that things have changed from his announcement about “The Blue” in the interview, perhaps he hasn’t changed the title. He always has been sneaky with these things…
I’m going to agree with a few past posters- that The Light is life, The Black is death, and The Blue is the Morpheus Road… which leads us to conclude that Morpheus Road is the line between life and death?
However, there were many references to Cooper about “walking the road”. Does this mean that Cooper wasn’t dead when they were mentioning this? Or does the Morpheus Road not symbolize the line between life and death, but a somewhat purgatory that determines the future found in death? Cooper, near the end, mentions that there were still choices after death, leading me to believe that, although the Morpheus Road is the sliver that could lead to the point of not return, there are choices made there that could determine how one would spend the rest of eternity- just like a purgatory of sorts.
But, that’s just my idea.

Ya, I was the one who posted that theory on the Blue. It also says that the Road is easy for some people, but difficult for others. I guess it depends on how you were during your life…but that might cause some contovversy with religious people.

Just ignore the spam, guys. I mean, it’s annoying and all, but it’s machines doing the work. I’m sure the spam could be deleted, but that would involve recreating the topic and therefore deleting all of our comments. Just ignore it and post on the things that actually matter.
Anyway…
I think that the crucibles have some power that is able to keep away those who don’t actually exist in the Light, that much I’m pretty certain of. How they do this, I’m not sure… maybe it’s the spirits of those who have walked the road keeping the living from being attacked by those of the Black? I have no idea. As for Marsh’s mom; I’m thinking that she tried to walk the Road and come back, but went a little too far and ending up in the Black or was combatting Damon and Gravedigger- something that led them to want to go after Marsh and others related to his mother.
I could be completely wrong, but that’s my theory for now. I plan on changing it as soon as the Black comes out anyway, so it’s worth a try…

I just finished the book today, and was trying to figure out about the crucible. When Ennis talking about it protecting him, I thought when Marsh broke it, that was what like set Gravedigger/Damon loose, or let the haunting begin, i dont really know. I’m also thinking that the Black might not be the realm/world of the dead, but a bad place, since the poleax is extremely bad(from what read) that it would have to be in a bad place, kind of like hell and heaven. And if the poleax is in the Black(hell), could there possibly be a place like heaven that Damon didnt talk of. Its all kind of confusing. On the other hand, it was a great book and I kind of see it going in the direction Pendragon went it.

Someone mentioned earlier they thought Marsh’s mom’s death was Damon’s first step. That’s a pretty interesting theory. His mom had given Marsh the crucible before going off on the photo shoot. Therefore, she lost her protection. This makes me wonder what will happen to Ennis, because he gave his crucible to Marsh as well…
(Just a little side note… I have summer reading for school. Although I wish Morpheus Road was one of the required reads, it wasn’t. However, we do have to read Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible”… I smiled when I saw that, though the two books aren’t related at all…)
I had thought in the back of my mind that Gravedigger was an illusion while reading, but when it was finally revealed he was, I was still kind of shocked… Excellent plot twist! Also, that cemetary scene was the greatest! Beautifully descriptive…
Can’t wait to read The Black! Hopefully somone will post some more theories, because I have none…
