Pendragon Movie Blog

I had a request to start a blog where you could weigh in on thoughts about a movie based on The Merchant of Death and to discuss casting. This isn’t to say that a movie is imminent. It isn’t. But I’m working with some folks to develop one now, so you never know. (Just don’t hold your breath!)

So, here’s the blog. Have fun.

I hope we’ll get more news soon on a movie! I’ve got so much excitement building up that I don’t know how I can stand waiting much longer!

But for now, I’m re-reading the books 😀

    Hobey ho!

  2. Shannon says:

    The Pendragon books = epic!

    A Pendragon movie = epic!

  3. DarthSpader says:

I can’t even watch TV without thinking “They might make a Pen movie. They might make a Pen movie. They might make a Pen movie. They might make a Pen movie.”

  4. MissBookworm says:

I can’t do ANYTHING without thinking that!

  5. Shannon says:

    I agree completely!

Pendragon has to become a movie!! I’m sure if Press were here, he’d say that’s the way it was meant to be!

  6. Killian says:

A Pendragon movie for sure is the way it was meant to be! 😀

  7. Rair says:

I think the Pendragon series might actually make a better tv series than a movie. I think this would eliminate the issue of actors aging too quickly.

A tv series would allow multiple books be pushed into one season. This way the entire story could be told within say 4 years ;). I seriously doubt the entire Pendragon story could maintain audiences for the 10+ years it would take to tell the story in movies. There would be a good chance that the movies would stop after the first one (kind of like a graphic novel we all remember). A tv series would allow for the entire adventure to be told and may even pull kids into the books.

Tell me what you guys think about a Pendragon tv series?

  8. James says:

i agree with what Rair says. though the idea of a pendragon movie is exciting. i sort of think they might completely screw up the story line sorta like they did with stuff like the lightning thief and the alex rider movie. i dont want it to be one of those movies that people dont want to see.

  9. Zadaa Ghee says:

I don’t agree with Rair; I feel that a tv series might skip out on the little parts that have exactly 0 consequence in the series but I really want to see in picture . . . . I don’t think movies would lose audiences over the 10+ years because each new movie would keep us excited for the next one, especially for the people who know and love the books. I would have stopped watching the Harry Potter movies at five since they were going downhill but for the fact that I had already read the books and there were certain parts I wanted to see in film. I think the same thing would happen with these if they were put into a movie and would draw more audiences into the books and thus back into the movies . . . the only problem is that Pendragon isn’t exactly really well known (as of now) and if the first movie doesn’t turn out awesome it could all go downhill and crash . . . but I think there are enough people to spread the word around and draw audiences in. This only leaves the already said problem of the actors aging, ten books over four years and it taking 10 years to make would be a serious problem and I wouldn’t want them to change the actors, though it might be unavoidable . . . . I guess as long as they don’t change the actors of Bobby and Loor at different times I guess I would be content with that though. . . .

  10. Bokka says:

I agree with Zadaa Ghee. I think the movies would for sure keep audiences coming back for more. The series becomes more intense and the suspense is always growing. And there’s always a new and exciting territory to be introduced that audiences will be eager to see.

    Hobey ho!

  11. Pranav says:

I think that movies for the Pendragon series would be wonderful as long as they don’t do what they did with Harry Potter and totally ruin the books. Already one of my favourite series has been utterly demolished by Hollywood, we still have the books for the faithful though, but I really do not want another one to be too.

  12. Amanda says:

I am in LOVE with the Pendragon series. Ever since I started reading the books I have been dying for the movies. I have to admit I have imagined it as a movie and have practiced lines from the book. Now that Harry Potter is over people want the next big adventure….Twilight isn’t going to cut it. I say go with the movie and HURRY because Pendragon is my dream life and I would love to be part of it!
    And so we go…

  13. Lori says:

Pendragon would for sure become the next big adventure franchise! The books are amazing, as well as the characters and territories and movies could be amazing as well!!

    And so we go, indeed!

  14. Tasha says:

Hobey ho! I can’t wait for a movie, if one is indeed going to be made! I can hardly wait! 😀

  15. flight 29 downer says:

cant wait for a movie. and congrats msbookworm for getting ur bro to read it. my fav book is zaada but ive read the merchent of death 10 times

  16. flight 29 downer says:

    hey dj,
if pendragon becomes a movie you should like do some kind of contest for the fans to idk let them be extras on set or win a set visit

  17. Tasha says:

That would be awesome if fans could have a chance to visit the set!

  18. MissBookworm says:

That would be so cool! I really would like a Pen movie, though. I’m re-re-reading Lost City of Faar (again). I think the books just have such a great storyline, they would translate into great movies. I can’t believe that I got my brother to start though, flight 29 downer. He doesn’t read at all, but now he can get enough! A movie would undoubtable be amazing for the fans and the books themselves.
    Hobey ho!

  19. MissBookworm says:

This is killing me. It’s been two freakin’ weeks already! I WANT A MOVIE :O

  20. Clester says:

    Dear DJ,

I can say on behalf of every Pendragon fan out there in all corners of Halla… WE NEED A PENDRAGON MOVIE!!!

    Hobey-Ho!,

    Clester

  21. Darlene says:

    Hobey ho!

Pendragon movies = a dream come true! 😀

  22. Amanda says:

MissBookworm….I got my friend who is a DIEHARD harry potter fan start the Pendragon series and they are completely won over now! I think that a movie will be a great start to publicize the Pendragon series…people can’t help but become addicted! They are THAT good!

  23. Darlene says:

I agree! Having movies made would for sure help attract more people to Pendragon and would bring more people to the books, drawing in more fans!

And I agree with Amanda. It’ll be a great way to publicize Pendragon!

  24. Ravinia says:

We shall host red flags over Second Earth if this does not happen

  25. John says:

so yea, i need to re-read the book, i recently started college and have had no time so i hope to soon. i really want the auditions to be opened to fans. I really think i could be spader. I would like to be bobby, but im a little bit to old.

  26. Daniel says:

I am dying for a PenDragon movie. It has the potential to either be a great film or television series! I know alot of people are worried about how the movies might change the story BUT the thing is, D.J. MacHale can, and should help write the script for each film. Not only does it show how dedicated he is to his stories, it helps assure everyone the the true writer will not allow his series to be done poorly.

  27. Shimmer says:

    I agree with Daniel.

  28. Courtney says:

    A movie sounds awesome!

  29. mark says:

    epic movie = epic awesomeness

love the books, on # 8, can’t wait for ten

  30. John says:

agreed on the last few comments

  31. PendragonFan says:

They should definately make a Pendragon movie or a Pendragon TV series, as long as it’s not CGI or cartoon. The Pendragon series is amazing, but I believe that the series REALLY starts getting good by book 3, so the first two movies would really have to be super good to have people interested until the third one, when they’ll be hooked forever. Just hurry up and make a Pendragon movie/TV series, becuase us fans cannot wait!

  32. PendragonFan says:

Also, they especially need to make Pendragon within the next few years so that people can have new movies to look forward to now that all the big franchises have ended… Harry Potter, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and, pretty soon, Twilight (which wasn’t well-liked in theatures by anyone but TwiHards- Diehard Twilight fans- anyway.) People need a NEW movie series that is actually GOOD, can actually compare to Harry Potter, and is actually like the books. If not, people will have nothing to look forward to seeing in theatures!

  33. Holly says:

Well said PendragonFan. Pendragon can indeed become the next big movie franchise. It’s an amazing adventure story that would be great on screen and would grab audiences for sure!

    Hobey ho!

  34. Challenger Red says:

It would so suck if Pendragon dosen’t gets made into a movie. Everybody who hasn’t heard of Pendragon would be missing out on something great.

  35. Challenger Red says:

    @PendragonFan I agree with u.
It may indeed become an Awesome movie series. Hollywood is starting to run out of ideas and if Pendragon becomes a movie. There will be a bunch of Pendragon fans. Hey they might be more fans than Harry Potter. (Maybe Im still a Harry Potter fan even if its over:(

  36. Voyager says:

Yeah, movies would definitely help to introduce more people to the books. If people enjoy the movie(s), they’ll most likely go and pick up the books and become a fan.

    I’ve got my fingers crossed!

  37. MissBookworm says:

    I can’t believe he hasn’t posted anything else! IT’S BEEN 16 FREAKING DAYS! I WANT A MOVIE :*(

  38. MissBookworm says:

I slept with my books last night, and I had a Pen dream (again) where i was there for everything that happened, then I came back to Second Earth, where everyone thought that Pendragon was just a book, and there was a movie, and it was exactly like everything I had just been through.

  39. MissBookworm says:

    I’m not sure if that’s a bad thing >_>

  40. Voyager says:

Don’t worry MissBookworm. We just have to be patient. Putting together a movie takes time, so all we can do is wait.

But it’s hard waiting when you’re filled with excitement. I’m re-reading the books to help to pass the time.

  41. Holly says:

Whoever used my username please don’t use it again. haha Sorry it’s just i don’t want people getting confused. And i totally agree with PendragonFan. People are sad now that all the hit movie series are coming to an end. So if Pendragon came out any time soon, people would be open minded and want to see it. 🙂

  42. Jodi says:

    Hobey ho!

Pendragon movies would be great for everyone! Not only for fans, but for those who’re looking for the next big adventure they can dive into. What better series to fall in love with than Pendragon? 😀

  43. Selena says:

I think Logan Lerman should be Bobby. When I read the first book I imagined him as Bobby the whole time!!!

  44. Saint Dane says:

You are all being unrealistic. It is impossible for 10 movies to be practical. I really think a TV series would work because there are plenty of shows with up to and surpassing 10 seasons but a movie franchise with 10 movies is unheard of.

  45. Verany says:

Please made it into a live action, either movies or tv series, we obviously couldn’t wait any longer 🙂

  46. Taylor says:

Can’t wait for this movie, if it gets made!! 🙂

    And so we go.

  47. flight29downer says:

We just need to be patient. Talk about a hunger games movie staryed over a year ago and they just started filming this march

  48. Kimmy says:

That’s true. We just have to wait and be patient. That’s all we can do.

  49. John says:

see the only problem with waiting is that i absoulty want there to be fan auditions. I am already to old to play bobby and I want this to start when I can still play spader. anyone remember his age when he first comes into the book? still have not got around to re-reading them

  50. Kimmy says:

In Lost City of Faar, he’s about 2 years older than Bobby, so since Bobby was 14, Spader would be 16.
