Pendragon Movie Blog

I had a request to start a blog where you could weigh in on thoughts about a movie based on The Merchant of Death and to discuss casting. This isn’t to say that a movie is imminent. It isn’t. But I’m working with some folks to develop one now, so you never know. (Just don’t hold your breath!)

So, here’s the blog. Have fun.

I think the clock on this website is weird. It’s like five hours ahead of what time it is here.

  2. Challenger Black says:

Yeah, not the same time where I am. It’s 11:00 where I am.

  3. MissBookworm says:

I also think it’s weird that no one comesback to post things as often as i do. i posted stuff on this page back when there were only two hundred comments and I’ve been posting on it ever since.

  4. Challenger Black says:

Same here. I check more than a couple times throughout the day to see what’s posted and who’s around. I know some people post one comment and leave, but I like sticking around to keep in the loop of things.

  5. MissBookworm says:

I think I’m just a bored Pen addictee who needs something to do with her life

  6. Challenger Black says:

I agree completely. You’re not alone on that one. I’m a Pen addictee as well.

I’m sure lots of us Pen fans out there would agree 🙂

  7. MissBookworm says:

you know how you can have contacts on you’re computer like you can on your phone? i spent all this afternoon putting in all the travelers and their acolytes.

  8. MissBookworm says:

Instead of a country i put the territory, and for job I put either traveler or acolyte then whatever their cover-up job is

  9. Challenger Black says:

Hey, neat idea, and not a bad way to spend the afternoon 🙂

  10. MissBookworm says:

I’m not sure if that’s impressive or sad…

  11. MissBookworm says:

not about what you said, about my own bordom

  12. Challenger Black says:

Well, from a Pen fan’s point of view, it’s impressive!

  13. Challenger Black says:

Out of my own boredom, I went and drew up some posters for the characters. So far, I’ve only got Press, Mark, Kasha, Spader and one I made with quigs on it.

I like drawing so what better to draw than Pen characters? Now they’re up on my wall in my room.

When i forgot what exactly Gunny’s Job was at the Mannhattan Tower, i picked up never war and checked. I had to check a lot of things doing that. Now I have a widget on my little toolbar that says,
    Aja Killian
    Alder
    Booby Pendragon
    Boon
    Courtney Chetwyne
    Douglas Curtis
    etc. etc.

  15. Challenger Black says:

That’s awesome. Who knows? Maybe other Pen fans will want to do something similar.

  16. MissBookworm says:

Have you ever been on deviantART?

  17. Challenger Black says:

Yeah, I go there a lot. I save a lot of Pen stuff to my computer. I’ve got a folder dedicated just for Pendragon art.

  18. MissBookworm says:

Me too! Have you seen the Pendragon Pins?

  19. Challenger Black says:

Yes! Those are awesome! I love the Mark Dimond one 🙂

  20. MissBookworm says:

yeah 🙂 what about that Fancomic thing?

  21. Challenger Black says:

Fancomic thing? Not sure I’ve heard about that.

  22. MissBookworm says:

This person did the first page of Pendragon as a graphic novel. It’s really impressive. The titles are Pendragon-Fancomic-Pg1 and Pendragon-Fancomic-Pg2

  23. Pendragon Freak says:

omg i just discovered this site and is there really gonna be a movie i mean if there is i am sooooooooo going to the fist showing but is that a rumor is it it true if its true whos the cast if not then there shoudl be!

  24. Challenger Black says:

Sounds cool! I’ll go check that out right now.

  25. MissBookworm says:

Pendragon Freak, if you want to read about suggestions for the cast, then go back to the comments at about number 200

  26. Challenger Black says:

Hmm…nothing came up. Do you know the person’s name who did the fancomic? I typed in Pendragon-Fancomic-Pg1 but nothing showed.

  27. MissBookworm says:

    their screen name is ChichiriCatSan

  28. Challenger Black says:

Alright, I’ll see if that works.

  29. Challenger Black says:

I found them! They’re awesome. I wonder if they’re going to make more. They’re crazy good. It looks like they came out of the book.

  30. MissBookworm says:

I know! As soon as I’m done reading Raven rise and Soldiers of Halla I’m gonna work on my Pen fanfic for dA

  31. Challenger Black says:

Sounds awesome! Wish I could stay and chit chat some more, but I better be heading to bed. It’s late where I am.

    I’ll talk to you later.

THIS COMMENT IS FOR DJ MACHALE PERSONALLY.

    Dear DJ,

I have read your Pendragon book series, and I am currently towards the end of book 10 at the moment. When I first saw your comment about you creating a blog for ideas about a merchant of death series, I was stunned. Your series has honestly blown me away, and I wanted to help give some tips for casting and ideas. My number one tip for you Mr. MacHale is not to look for anyone in particular for casting in your film. You need to keep your eyes open for new opportunities, especially when it comes to casting actors and actresses. Basically, don’t look for anyone necessarily famous to be in your movies. A good example of this is the movie Harry Potter and the sorcerers’ stone. When they first started the process of finding actors and actresses, they auditioned hundreds of people just to find the role of Harry Potter, and they didn’t look for anyone famous

My next very big tip to you Mr. MacHale is DON’T LET YOUR MOVIE END UP LIKE THE MOVIE ERAGON. I’ve seen several people commenting in this blog about not letting your film become like Eragon. In comparison to the book, it vaguely covered what the book was about, had cheap producers, and was in the end, an utterly disaster of a movie which didn’t even follow up with the sequels to the first movie. The main problem with Eragon was the fact that it WAS NOT directed by the author of the book series. If you are to make a merchant of death movie, you MUST be the director (THAT MEANS NO ONE ELSE), and you MUST follow up with sequels to the first film.

I, along with everyone else here who is bloging on your website have read your book series, and with out a doubt, have full 100% faith in you that you can successfully make the Pendragon adventure a great movie series. If you read some of the other comments, people have said that it could compete, if not be greater than the Harry Potter series. I absolutely agree with them, that if you truly put your mind to it, it can be. Now THAT’S SAYING SOMETHING!!! Try and get tips from not only your fans and people who blog on your site, but from other peoples work themselves for things like special effects. I’ve heard you also comment before in interviews that making a movie is more difficult to create than the books themselves. KEEP IN MIND, that you have already written the book series. Now all that you have left to do is shape it up and into a film and keep an opened mind to everything. Once you do that, it’s almost as easy as writing a book. Strive to make this a GREAT movie series, because we all know it can be a GREAT movie. You’ve brought Pendragon into the lives of many readers throughout many nations, and a movie is what we’ve all been waiting so patiently to see. We believe in you, that you can bring it to the lives of the world on the big screen, for all of our eyes to see, with you to thank.

Mr. MacHale, you will always have support from your fans, and be one of my favorite author’s on second earth.
We all wish you good luck, and will be waiting for the trailers, and don’t worry, I’m not holding my breath. 🙂

    Sincerely,

    Ethan Farina.

    Hobey-ho! 🙂

merchant of death movie not series, lol

  35. Candace says:

I am a huge fan of your books. they are so amazing and take me through a journey everytime i read them. i feel as if im pulled into the magical series you wrote. i would love for a movie to be made based on the books. but only if its exact to the movie. i would hate to see these books ruined by bad actors and irrelevant scenes added to them. or parts taked out. also i agree tht you need to find actors that arnt popular. if these books made it to the theaters i guarentee that they will be HUGE. but only if the movies are exactly or close to the books 🙂

  36. MissBookworm says:

All we need is four hundred more comments to beat the most commented post on this site, which is the Soldiers of Halla Epiloge Spoiler page thingy. (Nice improv name, huh?) Anywho, that got 1,243 comments. We’ve already gotten eight hundred! another four hundred shouldn’t be that hard!

  37. Eli says:

Hey all! Check out my new blog!!
    http://wordfromthenerd.blogspot.com/

  38. Ethan Farina says:

THANK you candace, i agree completely. I have full faith though that the movie won’t be ruined by bad actors. The Pendragon series has also taken me on a pretty fun ride myself and would hate if the movie did’nt come out as expected.

  39. cayleycattt says:

I didn’t realize so many people were SO dedicated to these books. I love them too though. I started the series a while back but never finished the last three so that’s what I’ve been doing and I’m LOVING it. The books suck you in, and all the action and drama going on actually gives me a feeling of like.. anxiousness because of Saint Dane and I just want to know everything in Halla turns out okay! Nobody spoil it for me, lol I still have to read the last book.

  40. veelox0 says:

I saw a really good trailer on YouTube for soilders of halla…and if I were you missbookworm I wouldn’t watch it yet cuz it’s like exactly perfect for the book

  41. Jewel says:

This movie will be amazing if it’s done well. As a huge fan of the books, I’m always pulled into the adventure when I go back to re-read the books, and I’m sure audiences will feel the same way watching Halla come to life before their eyes.

    Hobey ho, let’s go!

  42. Ethan Farina says:

    Amen jewel, Amen.

  43. John says:

so i hate that i can only get on once or twice a day due to the fact i no longer have internet where i live. 🙁 i am re-reading the books and got to the part when bobby comes back in merchant of death. 🙂 it was then 2 am and i had to be up in 6 hrs so i went to bed. i fully believe this should be directed only by D.J. and have fan auditions. DJ is a good director and the fans will know where stuff is headed.

  44. MissBookworm says:

Alot of people agree with you John. I think that having DJ MacHale as the director would insure that it wouldn’t get all screwed up. I’m reading Raven Rise now.

  45. Challenger Black says:

Yeah, it would be awesome if D.J. could be the director.

  46. Challenger Black says:

Kind of off topic here, but D.J. posted on his Facebook page that he’s doing research for his next book series! How cool would it be to get a Pendragon movie and another book series? 🙂

  47. MissBookworm says:

    That’d be amazing!

  48. Challenger Black says:

I know! I wonder what the new book series will be about. I remember hearing something about Equinox Curiosity Shop, but I wonder if it’s something different. It’d be cool if it was similar to Pendragon.

  49. MissBookworm says:

I was having one of my mopey days because I was almost done with Pendragon, so my brother can over and he’s like “It’s okay, there’ll be other books,”
he does that a lot just to annoy me, so I hit him a few times and yelled at him that nothing could possibly compare in anyway to the beauty of Pendragon.

  50. Challenger Black says:

Yeah, I agree. Nothing could ever compare to Pendragon. That’s why I always love going back and re-reading the books. They’re always there to pick up and dive back into.

I’d be the same way if movies were made. I’d watch the movies over and over, and not get tired of them.
