Pendragon Movie Blog

I had a request to start a blog where you could weigh in on thoughts about a movie based on The Merchant of Death and to discuss casting. This isn’t to say that a movie is imminent. It isn’t. But I’m working with some folks to develop one now, so you never know. (Just don’t hold your breath!)

So, here’s the blog. Have fun.

  1. William says:

It’s amazing what a dash of make-up can do. Spader was probably in his late teens or early 20s.

  2. William says:

Zoe Saldana should be Loor. She’s young… and pretty hot too.

  3. Lara says:

Zoe Saldana was great in Avatar. Great actress. I could see her as a potential Loor.

  4. William says:

Yeah. She played Uhura in the Star Trek movie. She’ll be in the sequel too.

  5. Sean says:

    Sam Elliot as Press.

  6. Hoyt says:

Can’t think of anyone who could play Bobby.

  7. John says:

So when I first saw this I was amazed. I would defiantly see midnight premiere of this. also as someone else mention don’t sell your movie out of some scenes. For actors yes I would love to bobby but i don’t see that happening. in reality i believe it should be some more unfamiliar faces because otherwise i know i see the character how i have seen the actor in previous movies. i do agree with nick cage as uncle press and Ralph Fiennes for saint dane. i saw a post about Johnny Depp in this and ill put it this way that would ruin the movie for me so please don’t even consider him.

  8. Lara says:

I’d for sure see the midnight premiere as well 😀

  9. Marina says:

I don’t really care too much about the exact actors as long as they stay true to the book. I know it’s impossible to put everything from a book into a movie, but it would be more appealing to fans if they stayed as close to the book as possible. My other thing with the actors is that they have to be good. I cannot stand bad actors. It ruins the movie.

  10. Dave says:

Timothy Olyphant is perfect for Uncle Press. It’s all I could think about while watching him in I am Number Four.

Morgan Freeman is the obvious choice for Gunny, but he might be too old by the time these movies start production.

    Press’s acolyte is Clint Eastwood.

  11. erin says:

I’ve loved Pendragon since I read the first book in 4th grade.

Personally, I think Bobby, Courtney, Mark, and Loor should be relatively unknown and they need to be younger. If the movie is successful and they finish the series the actors need to be able to still play the parts after ten movies.

I think Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson) would be a good Bobby. I can’t really think of a good Courtney, but maybe Dakota Fanning? Also, I’d love to see Edward Norton as Saint Dane, but I could picture Ralph Fiennes playing the part too. My boyfriend likes Johnny Depp for Uncle Press (bleh), but I like Dave’s suggestion of Timothy Olyphant.

Please keep Russell Brand out of this. haha.

  12. Dave says:

    My opinion on earlier comments:
Zoe Saldana is too old to play Loor. She’s 33. Loor is in her teens.
Gina Torres would be good for Osa.
I like Jason Isaacs better than Ralph Fiennes for Saint Dane, but I think he’d have to hide the English accent to play it well.
Whoever plays Press, just please DON’T cast Nick Cage. That would wreck the movie for most of us. Plus, the entire budget would be spent on paying him.

  13. Flight 29 downer says:

    Bobby- Allen Alvarado
Loor- amandla strenburg (I’m almost positive I spelled her last name wrong sorry)

Allen is lex in flight 29 down
Amandla is rue in the hunger games adaptation

  14. Izack says:

As long as the movie is as close to the book as it can be I am fine with that and can’t wait to watch it!!

  15. Sydney says:

Oh my god, erin! You make my brain hurt to even think that dakota fanning could play courtney. Please, just go back to Twilight and leave the Pendragon movie to the REAL Pendragon fans. I think that all actors need to be pretty young and unknown and also as close to the characters descriptions as possible. I believe that is why Harry Potter movies were as big of a hit as the books. Because people thought less of big names for the movie and more of making the movie as close to the bestselling book as possible. And that is also why the Hunger Games movies are going to be a catastrophe and I am starting to dislike Hunger Games because of the movie. I was obsessed with it until i heard who they starred for everyone. Its horrible! I cant watch Pendragon go down the same way!

  16. Marina says:

Yeah, I think the actors would be better unknown. They could be totally famous by the end of the series (like the Harry Potter cast). But with unknown actors, they are not boxed into a reputation or previous movies.

  17. Flight 29 downer says:

First of all the pendragon series is already famous and second I agree with the unknown actor/actress thing. This could also let pendragon fans who like to act get a chance.

  18. Lara says:

Yeah, I think most people are in agreement with having unknown actors/actresses. Seems like it would make for a great idea.

  19. Saint Danes Acolyte says:

Dakota Fanning as Courtney: NO! courtney is described to be pretty and athletic. Fanning does not look like a good Courtney. Stay in Twilight.
Make the three Second Earth humans unknown actors or actresses.
Nick Cage doesnt seem like he can pull off the cool awesome U Press.
Saint Dane loses his hair i think in Black Water so having Ralph Fiennes do the role is like screaming Harry Potter copycat.

  20. Marina says:

Yeah, the only thing with having unknown actors is that doesn’t necessarily mean that fans could audition. Then there’d be a million auditions and not all of them any good. They’d probably only open it to people with agents.

  21. Rilnee says:

I really don’t care much about the casting. As long as they manage to find actors who fit the characters, I’m fine with it.
I just hope it doesn’t turn out like Lighting Thief, because in the book, Percy was supposed to be twelve or something, right? But in the movie, he is seventeen. So I would want someone that at least looks around 14 to play Bobby.

  22. Nate says:

    Hobey ho. Lets go!

  23. Flight 29 downer says:

Hobey ho indeed let’s get this party started

  24. Challenger Black says:

    Hobey ho to everyone 🙂

  25. denduron!!! says:

I agree that having unknown actors and actresses is a great idea. However, I think that the older characters ( Press, Osa, Saint Dane), should be played by better known actors.Like, Press could be the guy who played Henri in I Am Number Four.

  26. twlight is not as good as pendragon says:

I think that justin beaber should play pendragon and tayler lotner should play saint dane

  27. Silvery says:

    No justin beaber

  28. Flight 29 downer says:

Ok absolutely NO JUSTIN BIEBER, and NO TWILIGHT why is everyone so obsessed with that

  29. Marina says:

I’m sorry to all you Beliebers, but Justin Bieber would ruin the movie!
And I like the idea of having known actors for the older characters. It would give the movie publicity and a higher standing.
My brother says Jeff Bridges should play Saint Dane… I don’t agree. What do you guys think?

  30. denduron!!! says:

Jeff Bridges could be a convincing Saint Dane! He kinda looks like how I imagined him looking.

  31. denduron!!! says:

I also agree with those who said Nicholas Cage should not play Uncle Press. @ Marina: I agree that Bieber would ruin the movie. He seems like the wrong person to play Bobby.

  32. twlight is not as good as pendragon says:

i cant beleve flight 29 downer hates twlight. how can someone not like a book about 2 monsters fighting over a girl. i think lotner would play better as aulder

  33. Flight 29 downer says:

Ive never read it but I saw the first movie and I thought it was dumb it was really obvious what would happen. It just bored me

  34. twlight is not as good as pendragon says:

how can you not like it. im switching my name to twlight is just as good as twlight . by the way the guy who plays edward would play a better pendragon. :[

  35. Flight 29 downer says:

I don’t like twilight because it bores me. Pendragon and the hunger games have a much better plot.

  36. Andy says:

I hate twilight. The reason why I don’t like it, because I had to be in a theater full of sreceaming twilight fans. I had to go because of my yougner sister. There was this guy in the theater, that kept saying: ” I wish I had abs like that”. That is the reason why i don’t like it.

  37. Bobby Pendragon says:

As long as they base it of the book it will be good. If they make it as bad as the Spiderwick Chronicle’s I will be SOOO mad.

I would love a movie though.

  38. ron says:

so the twilight books were decent, the movies sucked ass. anyone in the twilight movies in my opinion should not be in the movie.

  39. billy says:

    twilight sucks pendragon is good

  40. Magic123 says:

I agree with some of the other comments. Picking unknown actors for the younger characters would probably be for the best. I can’t think of anyone out there at the moment who would do justice to the characters. You don’t have to have well-known actors to find someone amazingly talented.
I do kind of agree with others that Jason Isaac’s would make a good Saint Dane if he lost the accent. He can have the angry glint in his eyes that makes you know you don’t want to mess with him.

  41. Aquaneer says:

Yeah, casting unknown actors would be a good idea, bring in some new faces and whatnot and then as some people were saying, some more well known actors/actresses could play the older characters.

    Sounds pretty good.

  42. twlight fan87 says:

TEAM EDWARD. I wish they made a book where bobby meets edward. That would make a good film.

  43. denduron!!! says:

No more Twilight! I honestly do not think that anyone from Twilight should be in the Pendragon movie or books.

  44. Aquaneer says:

Can we please stick to discussing Pendragon? This blog is about talking about ideas and thoughts regarding a Pendragon movie.

    Hobey ho, let’s go!

  45. Marina says:

Lol! Sorry! I’m not a huge Twilight fan. And I don’t think it’s very relevant to Pendragon at all. Hunger Games is way more similar the Twilight is.

  46. Josh.M 22 says:

@Laura Yeah he could possibly be Saint Dane i like that idea or he could be Spader if he got a tan and David still looks kinda young

  47. Thomas says:

I definitely think that unknown actors would be good, but I think Joel Courtney (Super 8) would make an o.k. Bobby. Elle Fanning is also a great actress and could make a good Courtney or Aja Killian, even though she looks like she’s 16 (she’s 13). Robin Williams would make a good Uncle Press, because he’s good at playing those kind of roles (and have you seen his awesome beard, it’s epic!). Jason Isaacs would make a good Sain Dane because with a little make-up, you can make him look old, but then in the last book when Saint Dane makes himself younger, he’d be about the right age. An obvious choice for Gunny would be Morgan Freeman, because he’s just a good actor. I think someone with a very smooth and calming voice should do the voice for Kasha. That’s all I’ll say for right now!

  48. Thomas says:

why does the number eight turn into a smily?!?!?

  49. Julia says:
