I had a request to start a blog where you could weigh in on thoughts about a movie based on The Merchant of Death and to discuss casting. This isn’t to say that a movie is imminent. It isn’t. But I’m working with some folks to develop one now, so you never know. (Just don’t hold your breath!)
So, here’s the blog. Have fun.

Vo Spader says:
im off to use my skimmer. life as an aquenner is hard.
Courtney chetwynde says:
Morning Anyone on?
Julia says:
I am(:
Julia says:
But I have a feeling it’s afternoon where you live now.
Courtney chetwynde says:
Nope it’s only 11:08
Challenger Black says:
I’m on.
It’s 12:13 where I am.
Courtney chetwynde says:
WAit do u live in the us. Cause I’m positive I live in the latest time zone in the us. I’m guessin you live in Canada
Challenger Black says:
Yup, I’m in in Canada.
Courtney chetwynde says:
Thought so. So on a scale from 1-10 how excited r ufor a pendragon movie
Challenger Black says:
Oh, 10 for sure 🙂
I’m just so excited at the thought that this might actually happen. Even if the movie itself takes a few years (say 3 years at the most), I could wait that long. It’s waiting to hear news on if the movie is for sure going to be made.
Courtney chetwynde says:
I 100% agree but on a scale from 1-10 I’m a 1000
Challenger Black says:
Makes sense! I’d say I’m probably the same.
If this movie gets the greenlight, I just can’t imagine how exciting it’ll be to see the first ever made trailer for a Pendragon movie. It’s be gonna be downright awesome. I’ll probably end up watching it all day thinking, “Can’t stop watching!”
Vo Spader says:
see if it takes 3 years to make it and then a few years to make the 2nd then i doubt i could be spader. I am hoping D.J. is working on getting things ready for for the movies right now and will get the actors soon.
Challenger Black says:
Yeah, it depends on how long the movie could take to film. I’m guessing it probably would take up to 3 years, maybe more. But it’d be great if they could even get Lost City Faar in development before Merchant of Death is fully done, if that would be possible.
Courtney chetwynde says:
Ya that would be gr8. Ya if it takes 3 years to make the merchant of death then there is no way I could be Courtney cause I would be 2 years to old
Challenger Black says:
Yeah, really depends on how long it would take to film. I guess the most important thing though is that whatever the age of the character is, the actor/actress isn’t 10+ years older. Kind of like what they did for Prince Caspian, the second Narnia. He was only a kid in the book, but Ben Barnes was so much older…
Courtney chetwynde says:
Ya that’s true. I guess being a year or 2 older wouldn’t make much of a difference but being 5/6 years would be a huge problem. Like they did for the hunger games. Katniss is 16 but Jennifer Lawrence is 22 way to big of a difference in my opinion
Challenger Black says:
Yeah, that could be a big problem depending on how much older the person is. You wouldn’t Bobby, who’s suppose to be a teenager, being played by an adult, especially if you could really tell at a first look that he’s way too old. And I agree with Jennifer Lawerence. 6 years is a bit too old, in my opinion.
Challenger Black says:
Only certain characters are supposed to be older, like Press, Saint Dane, Osa, etc…
You don’t want to start casting older people as the younger characters and Travelers.
Amanda says:
I really wish we could get some news already!! When I found this blog I got so excited, but we haven’t heard anything since it was started 🙁
Challenger Black says:
Yeah, I agree with you. It’s been quite a while, over a month by now. It’s hard waiting, wondering what’s going on, but that’s all we can do, I guess, is to just wait.
Not an easy thing to do though.
Amanda says:
I had emailed D.J. when I first saw this blog and the response was that he’d be back around mid-August because he was vacationing with his family now. Maybe when he returns we’ll get some feedback!!
Challenger Black says:
We very well could! That’d be awesome thinking we could get some news soon.
Hearing that makes me feel a lot better 🙂
Amanda says:
AHH! So i had emailed D.J. and his response was ….
“Hi Amanda,
I’m so happy to hear that you’ve enjoyed Bobby’s story. Thanks! As for movies, I’m developing one now, but that doesn’t mean it will happen. Fingers crossed.
D.J.”
So everyone keep your fingers crossed!
Challenger Black says:
I’ve had mine crossed ever since I saw this blog…and I’ll continue to keep ’em crossed.
Vo Spader says:
yea i am really hoping it does not take to long. does it ever say how old spader is in the book? only says he is older then bobby so as long as the actor is not like 23 or older i think it should be good. if i dont get the part (or if its not a fan audition)
I am going to try to get an outfit like the clothes on cloral for the midnight premiere of Lost city of Faar.
also i think there needs to be a pendragon convention for fans. with traveler rings shirt etc..
Challenger Black says:
Yeah, I just re-read Lost City of Faar not long ago, and it says he’s about 2 years older than Bobby, and Bobby was 14 in that book, so Spader would be about 16.
That would be awesome to have an aquaneer suit! I’d absolutely love to dress up for the midnight premiere. Not sure what I’d wear or who I’d dress up as…but I’d be dressing up for sure 🙂
Courtney chetwynde says:
Absolutely I would so dress up as a cutizen of grallion for the premeire
BuggyReality says:
Whatever I wear to the premiere of the first movie, it definitely wont include boxers. 🙂
Challenger Black says:
Hey, smart thinking BuggyReality! That really keeps in spirit of not being able to wear boxers on Denduron! 😛
BuggyReality says:
I’d definitely want a Challenger Red shirt.
Challenger Black says:
Yeah, that would be awesome for Quillan Games. Fans could wear different colored shirts. I’d want a Challenger Red shirt for sure as well to show our support for Bobby during the games 🙂
Amanda says:
I really wish they sold traveler rings! That would make my LIFE! haha
Challenger Black says:
Yeah, if they sold Traveler rings, probably every fan would be wearing one to the midnight premiere.
Vo Spader says:
i think it would be fun to look like spader for lost city of faar. since im trying to be the character i will have the look if i dont make it.
BuggyReality says:
Hey I don’t have my book available right now but I need to know: how old is Alder and what is his description?
Challenger Black says:
I just checked Merchant of Death, and Bobby describes Alder as looking not much older than himself. So Alder is probably around the same age as Bobby.
BuggyReality says:
Ok thanks. So even if the movie takes about a year to start filming, I’ll still be in the approximate age range to try my luck as Alder.
Challenger Black says:
Here is the exact description:
“He was tall, and the leather armor made him look even bigger. He wasn’t very agile though. The other knights I saw were trained, dangerous dudes, kind of like ancient marines. This guy had the gear and the look, but he acted more like a big puppy who was all floppy arms and legs. He wasn’t exactly the fighting machine one would expect.”
BuggyReality says:
Ye, I couldn’t really fit that description 🙂
BuggyReality says:
Is anyone on?
miki says:
i am now
Melanie says:
I am 🙂
BuggyReality says:
What movie are you guys most looking forward to?
Mine would probably be the Reality Bug.
veelox0 says:
Same… The reality bug was my favorite book
BuggyReality says:
Ye, I loved the idea of Lifelight, a machine that can make any dream you want. My favorite scene was probably the journey through that building in the dream of that guy who created Lifelight.
Challenger Black says:
I’m most looking forward to Lost City of Faar and Quillan Games. Cloral would be so beautiful on screen, and I can’t wait to see the awesome games of Quillan.
I’d be excited for them all though! 🙂
aquaneer ryder says:
can’t wait for the movie too!!!
Cloral would definately be a beautiful place because of its waters and habitats.
hope the movie would be good!!! (which i know it will be because it pendragon!!!!)
I can’t wait for good new to come for the Pendragon movie 🙂
And hobey! over 1600 comments!!!
last time i looked we were a little over 1500!

Challenger Black says:
