Pendragon Movie Blog

I had a request to start a blog where you could weigh in on thoughts about a movie based on The Merchant of Death and to discuss casting. This isn’t to say that a movie is imminent. It isn’t. But I’m working with some folks to develop one now, so you never know. (Just don’t hold your breath!)

So, here’s the blog. Have fun.

I really want a Pendragon movie. I just read Merchant of Death again for the…eighth time I think. I don’t have the last two books yet, but I keep bugging my dad to take me to the bookstore. A couple days ago I dug out this really big binder and I put all my Pendragon books into it and took the whole thing with me when I went to my grandparents house.
Everyone who wants a movie, post as many comments as you can. If we show how much demand there is for this movie, then they’ll probably do it. Let’s try for five hundred comments by the end of the week!
    Hobey ho!

  2. Moman says:

I very much want a movie! I think it would be terrific for the series and would bring in more fans!

Hobey ho! Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

  3. Lead Jakill says:

    *crosses fingers*

A movie would be so awesome!! 😀

  4. Sydney says:

I think the books would translate into wonderful movies. The territories and characters would be great on screen, especially since the books read like a movie and whatnot. Lots of potential for Pendragon to become incredible films.

  5. MissBookworm says:

I’m probably losing my mind over this, but I don’t care! I want a movie and I’ll do anything to get one!
    Hobey ho!

  6. Forager says:

I’ve read Merchant of Death numerous times as well, MissBookworm, same with the rest of the books. I can re-read them countless times and they never get old. I really hope there’s a movie. It would be awesome!!

And I’m sure I’d watch the movie just as many times as I’ve read the books 🙂

    Hobey ho!

  7. Forager says:

And don’t worry, you’re not losing your mind over this, MissBookworm. I want a movie badly as well. I’m sure fellow Pendragon fans agree as well that they’d love a movie!

Let’s hope for the best and keep our fingers crossed!

I think that’s what makes the books so good, the fact that they never get old. I forget so many funny things in the books. I was reading Merchant of Death late one night, and I almost woke up my brother laughing at the ‘secret prearranged signal’ for Loor to open the door.
    Hobey ho!

  9. Forager says:

I agree completely! I’m just re-reading Reality Bug right now, and it’s so fun going back into the books and laughing at all the things you’d laugh at before. Whatever I laugh at, I still laugh at when I go back to re-read them. The characters and jokes never get old.

I think having movies is truly the way it was meant to be! 🙂

    Hobey ho!

  10. MissBookworm says:

    Hear hear!

  11. MissBookworm says:

I’m gonna try and get muh brother to read the book. He might not try it. He also might not get very far. He isn’t really big on the whole ‘reading’ thing. But I’m hoping that the Merchant of Death can help me change that.

  12. Raider says:

Yeah, definitely see what he thinks of the first bit of it. Who knows? He might like it and want to keep reading. You have to be a very stubborn reader to resist the masterpiece of Pendragon! 🙂

  13. MissBookworm says:

I DID IT! OMG I DID IT! My brother has a little bit of trouble reading small print, so I typed the first page of the book only bigger, and he read it and he loves it! I DID IT! HE JUST ASKED ME TO TYPE THE WHOLE BOOK! I’M SO FREAKING HAPPY! 😀

  14. Raider says:

Congratulations! Not many people can resist Pendragon. It’s too spiff of a series! 🙂

    Hobey ho!

  15. eelong rulz says:

How many of you actually held you’re breath when you read the title?

    I did…

  16. Acolyte says:

I won’t deny that I indeed held my breath and squealed with delight at the thought of movie.

Such news is just so exciting. For a Pendragon fan, and for those who’d love a movie, it’s just incredible news!

  17. Izzy says:

A Pendragon movie would be no doubt amazing!! As long as they stay true to the books of course. As for people to play the main characters (bobby, courtney, mark) I think it would be a good idea for them to be unknown kids. Like they did in Harry potter. Some people have pitched this idea and I agree with them that it is a good one!

  18. Paige says:

    Same here!

When I first saw it, I was so excited! I’m really hoping this’ll go through. I was plenty excited when I found out there might be a movie but I can’t imagine how excited I’d be if we actually got one! 😀

  19. Paige says:

I agree with Izzy. Having people that are unknown play the main characters would be great, and a lot of people seem to feel that way. Seems like it would work well.

    Hobey ho!

  20. Haley says:

I’d be excited to hear the music of the movie! I’m sure it would be awesome.

  21. eelong rulz says:

it’s (nearly) been 2 weeks… it seems kind of lonely that there has not been a new blog post on his progress on making it a movie… well… he must be busy trying to make it a movie!

  22. Haley says:

I’m sure he’s very busy with discussions and whatnot. I’m sure as soon as something is agreed on in terms of making a movie, he’ll let us know as soon as possible.

Hopefully, because it’s been a while, it means things are going good. I really want a movie 😀

    Hobey ho, mates!

  23. MissBookworm says:

If they make a movie, I’ll probably die due to over exposure of pure joy. i love these books so much, sometimes i sleep with them! 🙂

  24. Haley says:

I’ll probably die out of excitement as well, but we can’t have that happen! Then we’ll never see Merchant of Death…or any of the other movies, for that matter, mates!

But nevertheless, I’ll explode with excitement!!

    Hobey ho!

  25. MissBookworm says:

😀 Hobey ho! I love saying that! One time I said it in class and everybody stared at me like I was crazy!

  26. Haley says:

I know! Such a fun thing to say. Gotta love Spader’s vocabulary!

  27. Haley says:

I’m sure people were staring at you because they’d never read Pendragon, but I’ll bet if someone had, then they would have said, “Hobey ho!” back in response 🙂

  28. Denduron says:

Ive been waiting for a movie to go with this book since i first read the merchant of death. hope it comes out!

  29. Loque says:

Same here! Ever since reading Merchant of Death, I’ve always hoped there’d be movies to follow. It would be so great if Merchant of Death got made!

  30. MissBookworm says:

    @Haley
i only know one kid at my school who’s read them. His name is Nate. He’s the reason our school library never has all it’s pendragon books. 😀

  31. Haley says:

@MissBookworm Haha, so he must have been reading them all and there were never any there. That’s funny!

  32. Dawn says:

    @Denduron

Same here! After I read book one, I thought, “I’d love for a movie to come out!”

Really hope a movie gets made!!

  33. I hate RayWilliamJohnson says:

PLEASE MAKE A MOVIE. I was one of the first to get the Merchant of Death and Soldiers of Halla. I’ve been waiting a LONG LONG time for a movie. I bet the movies will even beat Harry Potter movies.

  34. I hate RayWilliamJohnson says:

Please PLEASE make a movie. I am a HUGE fan of the Pendragon Series and D.J. MacHale. Was one of the FIRST people to get their hands on The Merchant of Death and Soldiers of Halla. PLEASE..make a movie.. I’ve been waiting a LONG LONG LONGGGGGGGGGGG time.

  35. MissBookworm says:

Shoosh yeah, they’ll beat the Harry Potters! I’ve tried watching the movies so many times, but I can never follow it! Pendragon beats Potter any day!

  36. Lead Batu says:

I believe these movies would have so much potential to become the next big fantasy/sci fiction film franchise, no doubt. The books are incredible and if done right, movies would be just as great. Audiences would love these movies, especially adventure lovers!

    Hobey ho!

  37. Milago Miner says:

And I agree, it’s not that Harry Potter isn’t good, it is, but Pendragon is just so special, in so many ways. I’m sure Pendragon movies would do just as well, and in my opinion, would do even better.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a future of great Pendragon movies! 😀

  38. MissBookworm says:

You’d have to be crazy not to like these books. There’s adventure and humor and all that good stuff all mixed together. as long as that’s properly incorperated into the movie, it’ll be great.

  39. Milago Miner says:

For sure! As long as the heart and spirit of the books is placed into the movie, it’ll be spiff!

  40. Traveler Gal says:

And what’s great is that fantasy/adventure movies tend to always do well, as long as they’re done well, and if Pendragon were to become a good adaption, there’s no doubt it would be successful!!

    Hobey ho!

  41. MissBookworm says:

They should definately make a movie. I need something else to satisfy my hunger for Pendragon. I’d watch it every single day. I garantee that somedays I’d watch it over and over and over again.

  42. Traveler Gal says:

Oh, I’d watch numerous times for sure! If I can read the books as many times as I have, then I’d be just as crazy for the movies as well.

I’d be awesome to see Saint Dane on the big screen! He’d be wicked!

  43. Traveler Gal says:

Sorry, meant to say it would be awesome to see Saint Dane

  44. MissBookworm says:

I want a movie so bad! It would be amazing to see the other territories. Seeing the multiple suns, and quigs on the big screen would be amazing.

  45. MissBookworm says:

My brother is trying to read the book, and he said he’d rather watch a movie of it (*sigh*). I want a movie too, though of course. But you have to respect the literature. MOVIE! MOVIE! MOVIE!
    Hobey ho!

  46. Traveler Gal says:

I know, I hear you! I’m really hoping the time for a Pendragon movie has finally come!

I’d love to see Quillan Games! Getting to see the Games, dados, LaBerge…and everything else would be awesome! 😀

I honestly don’t know which movie I’d be most excited about, though. They’d all be special in their own way, just like the books are.

  47. Traveler Gal says:

That’s great that he’s trying to read the books, though! The books will always be the heart and core of Pendragon!

    Hobey ho!

  48. MissBookworm says:

I love these books so much, I can’t pick a favorite either. There’d be so much cool stuff about all of them. Like the Zhou beast, and the Lifelight Pyramid, and the Denduron quigs and the Quillan games of course! 😀
    Hobey ho!
Why is Spader’s vocabulary so much fun?!

  49. Traveler Gal says:

Hobey ho! I’m not really sure. His choice of words are just so spiff! Talk to a wogglie like this and they’ll be in for a real tum-tigger! 😀

I agree, though! Seeing everything would just be awesome. The territories, characters, all of it!

I’d love to see Solara on screen. That would be interesting!

  50. DarthSpader says:

I want to read the book, but I’m only nine and almost four hundred pages is a lot of pages…I’ve read a five hundred pages but there weren’t that many words on the pages… (I’m serious)
