Favorite Pendragon Book

While visiting so many schools and bookstores, many of the same questions pop up.  One of them is about what my favorite Pendragon book is.  Since it’s been asked so many times, I thought I’d answer that here.

Looking at it one way, I don’t have a favorite because they all seem like different chapters in one big story.  But I can come up with a few that stand out for different reasons.  The book that was the most fun to write was “The Never War” because I loved going back into real history and doing the research about a time and place that fascinate me.   The book that was the most difficult to write was  “The Quillan Games”.  Coming up with all of those wild games, creating the rules, and then having Bobby play them was grueling.  I certainly don’t have a LEAST favorite book, though I can say that my least favorite cover was the one I call:  “Bobby the Blue-Eyed Reindeer”.   Yeesh.

But favorite book?  Now that they’re all complete and I can look back on the whole story, I guess maybe there is one that stands out.  I think I like it because it had a little bit of all the books in it and it tied up the whole story in a way that I had always planned on, but was never sure that it would actually work.  The fact that it did work is very satisfying.  There were a few scenes in that book (I won’t mention them here because I don’t want to write spoilers) that actually get me choked up.  More than a few scenes.  It was an incredibly rewarding experience to tie together all the loose ends, answer all the questions, and complete an epic story.  So under pressure, I would have to say that my favorite Pendragon book is The Soldiers of Halla.

  13. Shannan says:

My favourite was book 6. Still one of my favourite books. There was something about my favourite villain of all time losing it. I know I shouldn’t have, but I actually burst into laughter the second time I read it at the Ghee compound part.

  14. Tyler Regan says:

First, I would like to say that this is my favorite book series of all time!I have read every book twice, I have even talked my mother and grandmother to start reading them, and they took to the book after the first chapter, my mother is on book four now. As for the main question. My Favorite book would have to be book 6 because this is the first book where Bobby turns in a hardcore fighter, and this is the first book that I have felt something for the main characters in any book series, when Bobby turns around and rages on the villain which was amazing and so sad… but My favorite territory would have to be Cloral because of the amazing water world and the amazing inventions such as the bouyancy belt and the Scuba type mask! I have the complete set of Pendragon books in paperback, but I am trying to find the complete set of hard cover pendragon books, and I dont know where to look. D.J. MacHale If you could email me a link to where i would find such a thing I would greatly appreciate it!tylerregan95@yahoo.com Forever a Fan, Tyler Regan

  27. Kyle says:

I am only on the sixth book but a couple already stand out to me more than others. The first book really got me into the sires and got me really interested in all the traveler stuff. But I have to say my favorite is the fifth one because of a few reasons. 1, my two favorite travelers Gunny and Spader are in them. Also I really liked the idea of humans being treated as pets (well I did not LIKE it I thought it was interesting and really made me think) Also it was the first time we saw Mark and Courtney join the action and as far as I am concerned it is not the last.
P.S I think it would be cool to make a post on what you think on the prequels
P.P.S these are the books that got me into the fantasy Genre and are easily the best in the genre
