On the old forums I made a post about this, but since they no longer exist, I’ll write something again.
The final chapter of The Soldiers of Halla has been talked about and discussed quite a bit. Some love it. Others hate it. Some understand it fully. Others don’t get it. I’m not going to explain it all here because I’d prefer that readers draw their own conclusions. But I will make a few comments. First off, I don’t consider the ending to be a cliff hanger. Not even close. The story is very clear about what is going to happen next, and that is that Bobby will soon go to Solara and Courtney will not be far behind. To understand how the events described in the last chapter could have happened, you have to look at the end of the second to last chapter. Bobby lamented to Uncle Press that after all they had been through, it seemed unfair that the Travelers were not being allowed to live the normal lives they fought so hard for. All they wanted was a little bit of time to live those lives, which in the general scheme of Halla, wasn’t much . . . and Uncle Press agreed with him. How that was able to happen, and what all the implications are, I’ll leave that up to you to debate and decide.
I’ll say one other thing, and that’s about the guy who delivered Bobby’s journals to him in the hospital. Short of actually writing his name, I pretty much described exactly who it was. From the events that unfolded in the hospital room with Bobby and Courtney kissing and being interrupted, to his physical description, to Bobby recognizing him, to him saying that he had nine other journals to deliver, there is no other possible person that could have been…but Uncle Press.

One thing I find definitely worth debating about the ending, as much as I liked it, was exactly what state of mind will Bobby, Courtney, and the rest of the Travelers enter Solara with? What I mean by this is that when they read the journals and are reminded of the true lives they lived, will it be a simple review of everything that happened and Bobby will be plunged into Solara with his memories of the life where he didn’t become a Traveler but with the knowledge gained from reading his journals, or will his mind be completely reminded of everything that happened in his life as a Traveler and he enter Solara in the same state of mind that he would have before he asked for more time from Uncle Press.
I know I ask it confusingly, and I’m obviously not asking for universal answer seeing as this was one of the answers that we were to decide as readers, but I’m just interested in hearing how everyone else perceived this question.
For me, I believe he finally enters Solara with the memories of both lives simultaneously and therefor remembers the life he deserved and fought for as a normal human being (described in the epilogue) but also remembers the reality of the four years he spent as a Traveler, knowledge that he can use to watch over Halla from Solara.

i got the ending but i wasnt 100% sure it was press i thought it could have been mark but he wouldnt be delivering nine journals i checked the first book after i finished to see uncle presses description there and it fit so i was sure it was him i really wish it would have been bobby and loor and mark and cortney

Pendragon is so good words cannot even describe. I thought the ending was very clear and precise. I always thought it would be Mark and Courtney adn Loor and Bobby. I was very upset to know Mark died, i thought he was a really good guy. I wish Courtney and Bobby would have had children though, that would have been cool. I just adord teh ending though otherwise. It left me with such an embracing feeling with the way you summoned up how it was the figth of their lives and it was unfair for them to have spent four years fighting saint dane and leaving there family adn finding out that they were not even really family. Okay l think here’s what happened in the ending for those of you who are confused. Bobby says it sucks he didn’t live a normal life and he has to go back to Solara already. So Press sends him back in time, puts him in an alternate universe, whatever (how Bobbys put there is left ambiguous). That last chapter shows what would happen to Mark, Courtney, and of course Bobby if the whole traveler thing never happened. Mark got married to that crazy driving girl thats like mentioned in like 3 sentences. LOL. Anyway, Press comes in the hospital to give Bobby his journals so Bobby can see what really happened, and he and Courtney will go back to Solara content.

The ending is up to the interpretation of the reader in most cases, as DJ is trying not to impose any philosophy of life on his readers beyond the concept of mankind controlling all that exists in the world.
