On the old forums I made a post about this, but since they no longer exist, I’ll write something again.
The final chapter of The Soldiers of Halla has been talked about and discussed quite a bit. Some love it. Others hate it. Some understand it fully. Others don’t get it. I’m not going to explain it all here because I’d prefer that readers draw their own conclusions. But I will make a few comments. First off, I don’t consider the ending to be a cliff hanger. Not even close. The story is very clear about what is going to happen next, and that is that Bobby will soon go to Solara and Courtney will not be far behind. To understand how the events described in the last chapter could have happened, you have to look at the end of the second to last chapter. Bobby lamented to Uncle Press that after all they had been through, it seemed unfair that the Travelers were not being allowed to live the normal lives they fought so hard for. All they wanted was a little bit of time to live those lives, which in the general scheme of Halla, wasn’t much . . . and Uncle Press agreed with him. How that was able to happen, and what all the implications are, I’ll leave that up to you to debate and decide.
I’ll say one other thing, and that’s about the guy who delivered Bobby’s journals to him in the hospital. Short of actually writing his name, I pretty much described exactly who it was. From the events that unfolded in the hospital room with Bobby and Courtney kissing and being interrupted, to his physical description, to Bobby recognizing him, to him saying that he had nine other journals to deliver, there is no other possible person that could have been…but Uncle Press.

ur series rocks a finnaly finished it last week and had to go through parts at the end but i think the way u ended it was awesome with him gettin to live his life! i even understand the whole juornal thing and bet after they read it there memory was restored. cuase that would make the most sense to me.

Okay, Pendragon was by far the best series I’ve ever read!! It beats all the others, and now, Morpheus Road? I started the first book, and haven’t put it down! Now I’m hunting down book two! Let me know when Book Three comes out, if there is one! Your books are spectacular D.J.!

i love your books!!! best series i have ever read. fav book is Black Water. found no other series that is better than Pendragon.hope u make a movie from it, though the movie will probaly leave out half the important stuff from the books.

Absolutely loved the Pendragon series! Great last book. I love all the humor throughout the books. I agree it would make an AWESOME movie!!!!! But if it were to be made a movie, you’d have to make sure the director chooses the perfect characters and important events…..haha, you know what? D.J. MachHale should be director because you do have experience with it! 🙂

It is such a coincidence. I LOVED your series. Though my friend say that i am infact Courtney Chewtnyde from the book. I have all of her characteristics excluding the grey eyes. I find that very cool but creepy at the same time. It also gets annoying because they say i am married! 🙂 Anyway I love your book and im guessing you are making a movie….

Honestly, the only thing I ever hated about the entire series was that it ended. I spent two years hunting down the tenth book and once I got it I read all the way through it without a single coffee break. When I finished I was overcome with a nasty feeling that said this: “You’ve just finished the best book series of all time. You can go back and read it all over again, but it won’t change the fact that it’s over. There will not be another book like this for you to read,” and I absolutely hated that. Aside from it ending, I’ve loved this series from beginning to end, though when I first picked it up I expected it to be a book about King Aurthur Pendragon, but this was so much better. Thank you for the amazing book, DJ.

Hey, just finished the last book. WHAT a journey! I hated waiting a year between all the books, but it was worth it:) I am a lot older now and still really enjoyed this last book as much as the first, well done on that! When reading the last chapter/epilogue I began reading and thought “oh man another one of those stupid it was all a dream endings,” however you made a very good twist to those type of endings. I must congratulate you on making a very creative adventure that tied up so wonderfully at the end!
Thanks for making a wonderful series will always have it in my bookcase!
P.S. a movie would be cool… But make sure to supervise it so they don’t screw the story up like producers often do!!!
