Favorite Pendragon Book

While visiting so many schools and bookstores, many of the same questions pop up.  One of them is about what my favorite Pendragon book is.  Since it’s been asked so many times, I thought I’d answer that here.

Looking at it one way, I don’t have a favorite because they all seem like different chapters in one big story.  But I can come up with a few that stand out for different reasons.  The book that was the most fun to write was “The Never War” because I loved going back into real history and doing the research about a time and place that fascinate me.   The book that was the most difficult to write was  “The Quillan Games”.  Coming up with all of those wild games, creating the rules, and then having Bobby play them was grueling.  I certainly don’t have a LEAST favorite book, though I can say that my least favorite cover was the one I call:  “Bobby the Blue-Eyed Reindeer”.   Yeesh.

But favorite book?  Now that they’re all complete and I can look back on the whole story, I guess maybe there is one that stands out.  I think I like it because it had a little bit of all the books in it and it tied up the whole story in a way that I had always planned on, but was never sure that it would actually work.  The fact that it did work is very satisfying.  There were a few scenes in that book (I won’t mention them here because I don’t want to write spoilers) that actually get me choked up.  More than a few scenes.  It was an incredibly rewarding experience to tie together all the loose ends, answer all the questions, and complete an epic story.  So under pressure, I would have to say that my favorite Pendragon book is The Soldiers of Halla.

This is the BEST series of books I have read yet, and I’ve a lot of good books. I can’t choose the exact order of which I like them, but my favorite was definitely The Soldiers of Halla with Raven Rise and The Never War tying for a close second.
I read the whole series in about 1 1/2 weeks, it was that good. I was 9.

  11. Sophie says:

Favorite book in the series? Tough call…but I’d probably say Soldiers of Halla:P The entire series was AMAZING, but The Soldiers of Halla really ended the Pendragon Adventure with a bang.

  12. This Is My Name says:

Soldiers of Halla, is still the best, but Raven Rise actually had me getting pretty freaked out, with all the amazingness of Pendragon coming home, to our Earth. At the end, I literally had to flip to the copyright page and read the little thing thats like “this is a work of fiction”. I knew that.

But I like reading them Slow so as too enjoy them for as much time as I can, that I my parents wont take me to the book store. But so far, my favorite book is The Lost City of Faar (love spader) Hobey-Ho

Yeah, Lost City of Faar is one my of favorites too.

  38. M.Annette says:

Very difficult to pick, Reality Bug, Pilgrims of Rayne, Quillian Games and Raven Rise are probably the ones i find the most stunning because of what’s going on in the territories, but Lost City of Faar and the Never War are the ones i seem to read over the most. And Soldiers of Halla, of course, where it all ends so spectacularly. They’re all awesome as pieces of the whole though, each unique and essential, it’s hard to separate them into favorites.

  39. Saangi says:

my fav is book 5 Black Water. it was the first pendragon book i ever read, the one that got me hooked on the series. i treasure it just a little more than the others.

  40. Harry says:

The Quillan games may have been hard to write, but it was my favorite easily! The ending floored me!

  41. Challenger Black says:

Yeah, Quillan Games is my favorite as well. Awesome book! 🙂

  42. Challenger red says:

I love The rivers of Zadaa, Loor cam back from the dead, and Bobby killed Saint Daine (even though they cam back to life.) say second was Quillan Games.

  43. hobeyholetsgo says:

Picking a favorite Pendragon book is like picking your favorite child.
I have to say, when it comes to what’s going on in the territories and the conflicts and events that are unfolding, those are my favorites like:
    1- Soldiers of Halla
    2- Pilgrims of Rayne
    3- Black Water
    4- Raven Rise
    5- The Quillian Games

When it comes to action, these are the ones that really hook you onto the series.
    1- Lost city of Faar
    2- The Never War
    3-The Reality Bug
    4- The Rivers of Zadaa
    5-The Merchant of Death

  44. ForteSP says:

I would have to say that it was “Raven Rise”. With everything that happened in the book, how it ended and all, I was really excited to see how things played out in the tenth book. Like, I would have camped out in front of a book store for this book. I also think that the cover art for this book was the best out of them all.

  45. EminemismyHero says:
