Favorite Pendragon Book

While visiting so many schools and bookstores, many of the same questions pop up.  One of them is about what my favorite Pendragon book is.  Since it’s been asked so many times, I thought I’d answer that here.

Looking at it one way, I don’t have a favorite because they all seem like different chapters in one big story.  But I can come up with a few that stand out for different reasons.  The book that was the most fun to write was “The Never War” because I loved going back into real history and doing the research about a time and place that fascinate me.   The book that was the most difficult to write was  “The Quillan Games”.  Coming up with all of those wild games, creating the rules, and then having Bobby play them was grueling.  I certainly don’t have a LEAST favorite book, though I can say that my least favorite cover was the one I call:  “Bobby the Blue-Eyed Reindeer”.   Yeesh.

But favorite book?  Now that they’re all complete and I can look back on the whole story, I guess maybe there is one that stands out.  I think I like it because it had a little bit of all the books in it and it tied up the whole story in a way that I had always planned on, but was never sure that it would actually work.  The fact that it did work is very satisfying.  There were a few scenes in that book (I won’t mention them here because I don’t want to write spoilers) that actually get me choked up.  More than a few scenes.  It was an incredibly rewarding experience to tie together all the loose ends, answer all the questions, and complete an epic story.  So under pressure, I would have to say that my favorite Pendragon book is The Soldiers of Halla.

    Dear Pendragon Geek,
Me and Mark Dimond were talking about something in our literature class where you get to pick a book and read about it with 3 different friends. Then you get to decorate a corner of the room all about that book. We are going to do #2. I already read it and I am on the fifth one but everybody else isn’t. Because you asked that question I answered it!

  24. mark dimond says:

  25. Reginald Jackson says:

    Black Water
The series began to take on a much more serious and darker tone after this book. And just like how each territory had a turining point, this book was turning point for the main story. There are many twists and suprises in the book but what’s really the turning point is Bobby himself. While he had been without Uncle Press for a while, this book is when he really shines a leader. With Bobby cited as being the lead traveler of Halla, it was very satisfying to see Bobby become that person in this book.

  26. Ty says:

    best books in order
    1.The Never War
    2.The Lost city of faar
    3.Pilgrims of Rayne
    4.Rivers of Zadaa
    6.Merchant of Death
    7.Black Water
    8.Soldiers of Halla
    9.Raven Rise
    10.Quillan Games
think the convergenc part gets to over done, too complicated, i like the individual territories better then when they jump all over. Dont get me Wrong i love the books adn i understand the all the whole convergence was breaking down the barriers between territories but i still like the earlier ones better. and seventh one bobby gets too cocky and i hate the whole planet of Quillan, its a horrible place

  27. Bobby Pendragon says:

most people say that Soldiers of Halla is the best one but i am only on Black Water so I don’t know if it is the best well Ty doesn’t think it is the best

Yes! Pendragon as films would be epic! I can hardly imagine seeing everything come to life. I don’t even know which film I’d be most excited about. They’d all be awesome 😀

  42. Comet says:

I just hope they don’t do the same thing as they did with Percy Jackson and jack the movie up. That wouldn’t be cool. But if they do make a movie, I wonder who the actors would be?
