On the old forums I made a post about this, but since they no longer exist, I’ll write something again.
The final chapter of The Soldiers of Halla has been talked about and discussed quite a bit. Some love it. Others hate it. Some understand it fully. Others don’t get it. I’m not going to explain it all here because I’d prefer that readers draw their own conclusions. But I will make a few comments. First off, I don’t consider the ending to be a cliff hanger. Not even close. The story is very clear about what is going to happen next, and that is that Bobby will soon go to Solara and Courtney will not be far behind. To understand how the events described in the last chapter could have happened, you have to look at the end of the second to last chapter. Bobby lamented to Uncle Press that after all they had been through, it seemed unfair that the Travelers were not being allowed to live the normal lives they fought so hard for. All they wanted was a little bit of time to live those lives, which in the general scheme of Halla, wasn’t much . . . and Uncle Press agreed with him. How that was able to happen, and what all the implications are, I’ll leave that up to you to debate and decide.
I’ll say one other thing, and that’s about the guy who delivered Bobby’s journals to him in the hospital. Short of actually writing his name, I pretty much described exactly who it was. From the events that unfolded in the hospital room with Bobby and Courtney kissing and being interrupted, to his physical description, to Bobby recognizing him, to him saying that he had nine other journals to deliver, there is no other possible person that could have been…but Uncle Press.

what i mean is he said bobby pendragons life on second earth was cut short so maybe they made a new bobby, loor, gunny, spader, kasha, aja, elli,and nevva, (2 vs look like a w sorry) siry, alder, and patrick to live the lives on the worlds and the travelers lived on solara but im 11 so it might sound weird but think about it

I new it was Press the second I read it… I love – and hate – the end of a story… Love it because its the best part, Hate it because I feel like I’m loosing a friend, like they’re moving to the other side of the country and I’m never gonna see or talk to them again… At the same time I’m feeling ecstatic and anguished.
Any way, this is my second time reading the series, I’m a bit like Mark in that context, I’m 17 this time, last time I was about 14, so I’ve pretty much grown through the same years as Bobby, and all I can say is… Kudos, I aspire to be just as great of an author as you. And you are great, because you have managed to write one of the only stories I’ve ever read that made me cry, not just tears, REAL crying: which to me screams “Amazing Story”.

This series was great. I just finished reading the end of the tenth and final book. I loved the ending though I think you should make a short book to show what happens after Bobby and Courtney finish reading the journals.

Well gee, that answers a lot of questions!!! But when I read the last chapter I thought I was reading it wrong and went back and read it ten times over! I also agree with Josh too. A mini book is a great idea!!!

I hope that Bobby and Loor ended up together. I think DJ could’ve went a little more in depth after Bobby and Courtney finished the journals. I think the fanfiction is an amazing idea so we can get a better understanding of Solara and Halla itself.

i realy liked the ending. first i was quite confused but after reading this blog and rereading the last few chapters of the book i was able to get it. i think it was a very nice way to end a book, how the travelers got to live a normal live as well as before dying they also learned about their true nature and their adventures.!!!! LOVED IT

D.J. MacHale could not have ended this story and more cleaver. I love how he concluded the entire series by bringing us back to the very beginning. Now all there is to do is start over and read The Merchant of Death again and relive the adventure a second time the way Bobby and Courtney will. Bravo on a job well done!

Well its not really my place to talk for D.J but I miss Bobby’s adventures through time and space like all the fans of the series but we have to look towards the future and see that D.J’s explored the aspects of Halla to there ends and though there is things we dont understand its time we let Bobby and the other Travelers there well deserved respites and enjoy the new story of Morpheus Road. Besides they say in the new book that a surprise ally will apear so I wouldn’t put it past Mr Machale to add a Pendragon Character into the mix of Marshel and Cooper’s story of life and death.

I just finished the book today, cried. Well needless to say, its over for me. But Im SO not happy about that…………………….. Great story, and a million other things I`d like to say. Unfortunately this box is too small, but I would like to say, the ending is great, and the travelers future is bright.. at first I sorta doubted that, man I cant wait till im 14 😉 By the way, if all that was real that would be awesome 😀 When will they make a movie!!!! I do hope they don`t blow it or something…….. 😀

I agree. And even though Pendragon is over, it’s never truly over for me. I’m always going back, re-reading the books and re-living the adventure. I simply can’t wait for The Blood to come out. I keep wondering who that person they recieve help from could be. Guess we’ll find out soon enough 🙂

I just finished the book tonight… but ive been reading the series for years. I’ve put off reading it because I didn’t want it to end. D: Mark and Spader were my favorite characters… I mean, Mark was with Bobby the whole way.. going through the jungles of Eelong, and fighting the Conclave of Ravinia.. but in the end… he dies of a heart related illness? Seems kind of funny to me. I hope Mark gets a good life on Solara. Maybe there should have been an excerpt for the other travelers lives? Will enjoy re-reading the books.

Its just that C. Black and me seem to have very intellgent opinions and have you read the guys stories on the fan fic spot, I wrote some to but there nothing compared to this guys stories.

I finished reading the tenth book earlier today, even though it came out ages ago – I guess I was trying to put off having the series end x].
I really loved the series! The way that D.J. Machale was able to create 10 completely different worlds just shows how great his imagination is and his skill at being able to translate that to writing.
I love adventure and the touches of romance were just perfect. However, I really did want Bobby to get with Loor!
I got really emotional when in Raven Rise, all the travellers came back when Bobby was at his lowest.
This series will stay with me forever!

I forgot to mention – I absolutely love the way in which the series was ended. How we were taken back all the way to the first book when Bobby said ‘Yo’ to Courtney.
It was a heartfelt moment for me, reminding me of how it all began and definitely making me want to go back and read the entire series again!
How Bobby got another chance at his life on Second Earth baffled me though, keeping me awake, trying to figure out how it could’ve come to pass.
