The Merchant of Death was first published in 2002 . . . a lifetime ago. So we thought it was time to spiff up the Pendragon series and create new covers.  Over the next year or so, all ten books will come out with the new design. (Paperback only. The hardcovers won’t change)

I like the new covers better, because on the old covers i felt like bobby was staring at me..CREEPY…and the reality bug cover creeped me out cuz dr.zetlin just looked scary and i waz mad cuz that’s my favorite book…but now the new cover has my favorite colors on it 🙂

my collection is wierd. i have 1-8 of the old covers (The ones i like better) then the ninth one is the new cover and the tenth one is the old cover again.

Also, turn Pendragon into a movie, but don’t let 20th Century take over the project. Percy Jackson was great but then Rick Riordan gave them the terrible mistake of taking over everything and it was a very bad movie (compared to the book. Otherwise, the movie was great).
JUST DON’T MAKE THOSE MISTAKES and you’ll keep your status as ONE OF THE BEST AUTHORS

I’m gonna be honest with you Mr. MacHale. I like the original covers much better than these new ones…it seemed to me that when you started making the Morpheus Road series you thought you’d make your older books look cooler…which, in so doing, with your mind on Morpheus Road, made the covers sort of resemble the Morpheus Road covers. The similarities being it’s dark aura and twisting colors with odd designs on the front. With the other covers I really enjoyed seeing a tidbit of the worlds you had created on the covers(like the Faar submarine on book 2, plus the aquaneer suit he wore), plus the many faces of Bobby Pendragon as he became the ultimate Traveler. I’d really like to know how you feel about them Mr. MacHale, if you wouldn’t mind emailing me back.

Well, I have to say that I really liked the old covers. They made it easier for me to picture Bobby when I was reading. Also, I remember the forums, and many fans who wanted a Pendragon movie, based their ideas for actors to play Bobby on the pictures on the covers. While the new covers certainly look more modern and well… new, the old covers are like classics that never get old.

I am new to the series ( about a month).I was at my childrens bookfair for school and the Black Water book caught my eye and i kept going back to look at it. I brought it for my son to read well he never got the chance! I am so hooked I immediately went online to find ALL the books.I now have 1-6 and just found 7-10. Now I am looking for the 3 books about the Travelers.So to answer your question if it didn’t have the new cover I probably wouldn’t have look at it twice.The way I am buying them in lots of one or more,to get the ones i need,I am going to donate the rest to the school my children go too.

I think the new covers are O.K. I don’t really get what the symbols mean on them, though. For example, on the cover of “Merchant”, I don’t understand what the watch-looking thing is supposed to represent. What was wrong with the old covers?

Ok so still not fond of the covers but just finished the 10th book last night….that was awesome. Best ending ever, it just flowed perfectly. Sad the adventure is over.

finally some people agree with me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i don’t really like the new covers. pendragon isn’t as mysterious as morpheus road and i agree with the person that said that the new ones resemble MR more closly like you had your mind on MR and decided to change the covers. pendragon is a mysterious as i said and the new covers do that to them. honestly as looking as an outsider, i’d say that i’d be disappointed cause the cover depicted it as more mysterious than it actually was. though it is pretty mysterious with all the not knowing what’s going to happen, etc. everything with the Travelers untill the kind of 8-10th books.

I wanted to preface this with how wonderful and thrilling the Pendragon series is” to read. I agree with many of the other’s that th original covers are better, and lend more the essence of the book. My kids and I enjoyed “watching” Bobby grow and getting that small glimpse into the new world he was entering. I also dont like the fact that my books dont all match. I have never bought a whole collection before, but am now.. but am bummed they don’t look like a set. Thank you for the fantasy Mr. McHale, I look forward to seeing any movie you come out with this!
